What Would Tucker's Mother Say?
Courtesy of the sharp eyes of Media Matters, which is doing an outstanding job making sure that the rest of us do not miss any of the distorted, mean-spirited utterances of the right-wing, comes this astonishing quote from Tucker Carlson. Many of the quotes on Media Matters reflect the grotesque sensibilities of these right-wing flaks, but this one of Carlson's is in a league of its own. Was this really a person PBS should have rewarded with his own show?
From the November 22 edition of CNN's Crossfire:
TUCKER CARLSON (co-host): And that's about the era [the 1970s] that still defines the Democratic Party, the era of Our Bodies Ourselves [women's health book collective], of solar [power], not nukes. ... You know what I mean? ... A time when grouchy feminists with mustaches controlled the party, and they still do.

Oh yeah that says it all about how Bush Republicans think!!
I think Tucker IS talking about his mother!!
I love it when people insinuate that liberal women are all big, homely "feminazi's". I'm hardly that, and EVERYONE knows Dems are way sexier than those button-down, starchy-haired, pasty Republicans with "newscaster" haircuts and "sensible" shoes. They are NOT sexy.
If they were, they'd choose Dem. :-)
i consider the source--you know--that bow tie dweeb-- he truly represents his party!
Maybe Tucker has a little problem with women, like the couple of SUVs with Bush/Cheney 2004 stickers that cut me off on the freeway just now .. there are some things "political capital" just doesn't buy.

A Homecoming
Brothers and Sisters…I say this for we are all brethren…brothers…sisters…sons…daughters…Family. A great American Family. Born of malcontent and dissent, we are by our very nature free-thinkers…Rebels…Patriots. Though we mourn the loss our Natural Rights through a slow, blatant and merciless oppression we are here not to bear witness to a funeral of sorrow and despair but instead bring about by our own will a revival…a glorious rebirth…a renewal of our Homeland…our Nation…our Beloved America.
No adversary…no government can deny us this, our right, to dream a new dawn of Democracy and Freedom or to turn that dream into a reality for the benefit of all.
There have always been those who embrace the worst characteristics of humanity…they are the contrast between the light and the darkness and serve a great purpose...they show us the difference between futility and enlightenment. Just because evil exists is no reason to abandon the brighter light of Truth which serves those who live by compassion, and within this realization is the true wisdom in defeating our own personal challenges…for only then can we truly work together…and when we do there is no task too great for us to accomplish nor obstacle we cannot overcome.
We need not relive our shared history…battles lost or won…our uncommon Heritage or what it means to be an American...for each and every one of us have been created through a unique tale of tragedies and triumphs, failures and successes, loves and losses…these are the forces that define us...that challenge us...ground us…the experiences that make us each rare and precious within our profound existence.
A beginning can be a turbulent time...and yet, we here find ourselves drawn to the chaos to stand united within our Hope.
Longing to have our individual voices heard in harmony, to enlighten those who are seemingly oblivious to the dangers of being mislead down a path of reckless abandon, to restore and improve our governance, We the People have gathered here to forge a Monument to America…not of steel and stone upon the shifting sands of time, but based upon the principles and doctrines which have brought forth this great revolution of conscience guiding us to a better, stronger and brighter future for all of mankind...a Beacon of Freedom calling us ever closer to Home...to America.

Nice to come home & read familiar names & a few new ones too, & the kind from Independents for Kerry & also some links! This is great!!
Remember how everyone wanted a blog even after the election? Well now we have it & it's not tied to a candidate or even necessarily a party, at this point! We can work actively on media reform & voter reform as main issues! Such freedom!!
I noticed an amazing amount of creativity during this election year. It appeared that the "other party" often copies us or distorted our ideas - that was from the top down to the grassroots. They really didn't do much original. I read so much about the R. party being so "organized" but I would rather call it regimented, inflexible & stiff.
There has to be a way we can have the best of both - great ideas, great truths and still WIN - not let them have the power with which to do evil things.
I swear I am hitting the button once, softly!
Im amazed the OB/GYN community is not jumping up and down. Hair like that is caused by an illness of abnormal hormones that also causes infertility. Its callled PCOD. Poly-cystica ovary disease.
Lets all write him and tell him that we have struggled for years with the hair, and not only hair, but we cant have babies either.
Write him and tell him he hurt our feelings because we have wanted a baby for years and his comments about hair just shows how ignorant the media is about such a sensitive issue.
Lets put him on the defensive for something out of the blue.
http://folsomobgyn.com/polycystic_ovary_disease.htm
Info on the disease so you can write informed letters.. Let let him offend his own!
MotherTucker.
come the rest of you guys.. do we all strike you as grouchy feminists with mustaches?
Truth of the matter is it's more ageist than sexist, How old is he.. looks no more than early 30's at best.
I'm actually struggling here to understand what he's getting at, poor discriptions aside.

Seems like the Rethugs have a problem with sex generally. Consider the juxtaposition of the Bush administration atmosphere of repression and the skyrocketing sales of Viagra.
Call me bad.
I just posted his comment on a PCOS support board and told them how insensitive he was and urged them to write him. He was insensitive and I hope they all tell him.
Indy, the link just got me to a test java applet...
Tucker Carlson is such a hack.
I think he is in his mid-thirties--I think Jon Stewart asked him during that famous confrontation--and then asked him why he still wears a bow tie!
Oh this comment isn't about sex, it's about control. Republicans loath the idea of women in authority, hence the need to marginalize feminists as burly she-men with mustaches who couldn't attract a man if she wanted to. In college I took a course in women's studies and I remember what amazed me most about my classmates was how stunning they were, and how they were each in wonderful relationships with darn fine looking men. The teacher did fit the typical stereotype of a woman's libber, but everyone else was just part of the mainstream, interested in studying the issues of our times to carry on the fight of our mothers and grandmothers. Proud to be a feminist and, sorry Tucker, never have sported a mustache.
Asked earlier who the first target of media reform should be. Guess I got my answer.
Where is everyone going for news these days? Besides the internet?
Ladytechie!
Let it load...opens just like regular IRC.

Ginny,
For me it's too early to deal with news, especially since they seem only interested in revisionist history. Figured I would just read the Readers Digest version a few years from now. My home page is set to a world news site just in case something big should happen that I might want to be aware of, and I check the Kos main page for political tidbits of interest. It has actually been very liberating to live in a "Bushfree world". Adopting a child's perspective of "if I can't see it it doesn't exist" has a powerful advantage on the psyche. When sanity returns to this world and the electorate starts to care about issues that matter and stops tilting a windmills I'll return to the news.
Haven't even been able to stomach BBC yet, but they will probably be my first way back in.
I've been watching a lot of Cspan, FSTV and Link TV. I feel a lot better, and don't feel like throwing as much at the TV. I do have to be careful on Cspan though since a lot of Rush listeners call in.
A restaurant won't serve better food until people stop eating.
err... stop eating at the restaurant, not stop eating altogether.
Preaching to the choir here, I know
Here's an awesome article by Frank Blethen. Thank you Frank Blethen and WaPo!
Stop the Media Mergers
By Frank A. Blethen
Sunday, September 19, 2004
Democracy is in crisis -- not in far parts of the world but right here in the United States.
As with most democracies, the greatest threat to ours is internal. The danger within is the loss of our Fourth Estate -- an independent and free press that is essential if Americans are to be knowledgeable and engaged in the democratic process.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A30309-2004Sep17.html
Or the restaurant could just refuse to serve the Bush twins.
OK, I know I've changed the topic a bit. I assume that most of you have heard about the restaurant where the Bush twins attempted to get a table, and were told they would be booked up for the next four years.
I hope the restaurant survives its tax audit.
The media always wants to create the cycle, and when ready, moves on. I'm married to an old-style journalist, with pangs about how it used to be without this distorting advocacy and eye for the buck.
Ginny, I can't watch the news. Too painful how quickly Kerry and all that he stood for became a non-story. All I saw was applause for Rove's trash mouth politics, and ends justifies means.
And to the topic and visual above, you have to think back to those days before hormones, soy and exercise fixations. I remember. To which I say, yes, there was hair, but so what? More often than not, these women were married, with complete comfort in having brains, points of view and gumption. Gee, I guess that's scary.
This coming from a 35 year old man who wears a bow tie.
Seriously, that's a pretty snotty thing to say about "all Democrats". He's just reinforcing a really negative stereotype. In fact, one might say his prejudice is showing.

John Kerry ought to get a few points for even entering a bowling alley LOL
Thanks for posting the Blethen article from WaPo - I thought I recognized the name & it's the publisher of the Seattle Times. I have been very proud of our papers for their integrity - publishing photos on the covers of the flag-draped coffins (broke the story, & took flak for it) & recently of a funeral of a 19 year old soldier killed in Fallujah (at the request of his parents).
Ginny -
news? Google News, from all over the world.
Go to the bottom & click on various countries.
I get sent news from France & Germany & UK.
I listen to BBC & NPR. That is plenty.
I quit tv in 1991 because I found it too propagandistic during the Gulf War. I had already gotten fed up during the Hostage Crisis in Iran. Now I will only watch Front Line, 60 Minutes & The Simpsons (even tho it's on Fox).
I no longer like Time, Newsweek or US News & World Report but read some in Harpers, Atlantic, Vanity Fair, Rolling Stone, Nation, & I'm missing one.
I do not anticipate that I would have any reason to return to television in the near future as I can't stand any of the other programming either. Now that Beavis & Butthead & PeeWee's Playhouse aren't on, I just have very little to look forward to ..
I like to look at Jon Stewart links on the internet & other archived links, & C-span on the internet but I am quite burnt out on political speeches but may catch a couple in 2006.
Tucker - a rather pitiful specimen of humanity that is best left under the bed to collect dust.
Hope everyone has seen the letter from a group of Canadian lawyers to Prime Minister Paul Martin, demanding that Bush not be allowed into Canada:
http://counterpunch.org/mandel11222004.html
I wrote to the authors and thanked them for their courage in standing up to Bush.
'There were clear signs Yuschenko's organizers hope to maintain the protests as long as possible despite the hardship of the severe cold. Mobile food kitchens and generators to run heaters have been moved onto Independence Square, where supporters have pitched tents and announced the intention of remaining around the clock."

Barak Obama on Charlie Rose on PBS
Watch and see if he disses JK...kind of lead to it I thought...please watch and respond.
Off to sleep, but is this an old remark about the bowling alley? I'm distressed.
Can someone confirm this?
A co-worker told me today that Billy Graham Sr. recently said he has been a Dem all his life and he feels sorry for those who live in the Blue States. Is this true?
If it is then why haven't we been working with him? Too bad he's so ill. I hear his son is a right wing scary so we can expect no help from the younger BG.
Okay, went to your site. Feel better, but what about Obama dissing JK on Charlie Rose? True? Pack mentality to blame Kerry and not the party support or Bush or Rove?
The Best of Times, The Worst of Times
When in the face of great adversity it is human nature to question, to reel against the lies and torment of our oppressors, to lash out at any and all divergence from the course of our dutiful task, but let us together agree to disagree in our malcontent and fear.
Let us not divide our selves, for this is truly the wish and will of our adversaries whose every foot step is an attempt to conquer the spirit of this movement, whose every word is an attempt to quiet our chorus of voices and whose every single action is divisively calculated to subjugate us from within.
WE ARE AMERICANS!!! Us. All. Together. E Pluribus Unum...out of many ONE. This great revolution of thought and conscience will not be segregated nor drawn off course by our diversity, but instead let us draw strength from our profoundly distinct and infinitely different points of view.
We are ONE family...our American Family! And when our brother is in need of assistance we will be there to lend a hand...when our sister is having a crisis of faith we will come together to comfort and lift UP the spirits of our downtrodden brethren, and when in our Country's hour of need we shall stand together...proud, defiant, determined as AMERICANS!
Brothers and Sisters your county needs each and every one of you...your American Family needs you...and in this our time of despair we need each other.
Stand up now...hand in hand...heads held high...shoulder to shoulder and reach out to those that have fallen, for the battle has not ended but it indeed has just begun.
WE THE PEOPLE have the right, and indeed the might and fortitude to make the outcome of this most important election turn in our favor...WE THE PEOPLE will not betray our sacred trust in our candidates nor in our dreams for the future of this magnificent land of freedom...WE THE PEOPLE...our American family...will once again stand UNITED against the forces compelling us to be apart. WE THE PEOPLE...
Look back at our great history, for we are indeed a PEOPLE of great consequence and through the toils of our Fore Fathers share a heritage and a common fight and are bound together by uncommon goals...the goals of Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness, that these rights are endowed upon EACH ONE OF US by our Creator...they are inalienable, they are forever imprinted on the souls of mankind and that we all share equally in these rights to assure tranquility and justice for ALL!
REACH OUT! STAND UP! BE AS ONE! For once again we will bravely and courageously stand upon the fertile landscape of freedom and liberty to free our selves from that which holds us back and makes us doubt our very desire.
Never give up on America. NEVER give up on your AMERICAN FAMILY and NEVER give up on John Kerry and John Edwards for in November, we shall see the fruits of our labors, the fruition of our dreams and aspirations and we will as ONE NATION take the helm of this mighty land of freedom and opportunity and pray that we never allow our course to be altered nor our leaders falter as we have seen over the course of the last four years.
Be at Peace. Be as One. Be Americans!
When the going gets tough...AMERICANS GET GOING!
Let's Roll!!!
Dude, I wish I hadn't deleted the video of John Stewart owning Tucker Carlson. I'll give you a bit of a transcript of the parts that're hilarious:
Stewart: How old are you, Tucker?
Carlson: I'm 35.
Stewart: And you're wearing a bowtie?!?
Carlson: Do you do this to people when you invite them over to dinner? Lecteur them like this?
Stewart: If I think they're wrong, yeah.
Carlson: Ewww, I wouldn't want to go to dinner with you!
Stewart: And you won't.
Carlson: I mean, don't you feel you have some sort of obligation as a journalist?
Stewart: You guys are on CNN! You have an obligation. The show the leads into mine is a show about puppets making prank phone calls!
I love to see Tucker getting so completely owned.
-Gabe
Oh, I forgot to show all of you guys this great news! You can actually remove FOX from your TV by calling your cable company! Someone told me to post it over here, so here it is.
We've got a movie set up to help organize a grassroots campaign to get enough people off of FOX NEWS because:
1) FOX is payed based on subscribers, and
2) If FOX loses viewers, they'll lose advertising, and therefore revenue.
So, you can find the video here:
http://civil-values.org/fauxnews
And please, all of you, call your cable companies and ask to have FOX removed from your TV! You can have both channels removed, or just FOX NEWS if you're a Simpson's fanatic like DiAnne.
Numbers:
Comcast: 1-800-266-2278
Adelphia: 1-888-683-1000
Time Warner: 1-800-638-2882
Anyhow, we need people to get out the news about this camppaign! These little back-end comments won't work well, so we need people to post this blurb on their blogs and websites, and hopefully we'll get on a big blog like this some day hint, hint. I think this is something all Democrats should be willing to do, so let's hit FOX where it counts!
-Gabe
Ugh! When isn't he special. Makes me glad I don't have cable.
Funny I just dusted off my very old copy of Our Bodies Our Selves the other day. It's from the first print.
It's good to see so many of the Kerry Bloggers here. I'm hoping to have more time to spend here soon...
In the meantime I added a link to the Democracy Cell Project on the Unofficial Kerry Blog - http://kerryblog.blogspot.com/.
I'm also working on a new website and blog with Sandy from the Kerry Blog... we'll have more news on that soon...

It is wonderful to see so many familiar faces from the Kerry Blog. Suffered from serious blog withdrawal when the K/E blog was no more. Felt like I was wandering around with no direction for those few days after the election. Glad to read inspiring, humorous and informative missives from favorite posters.
I'm so thrilled to see so many of my Kerry family members. The days since BLack Tuesday have indeed been very bleak, with despondent hopelessness. Nonetheless, I am comforted by the hope that comes with a new day dawning and the comraderie of wonderful friends and patriots like you.
There is much work to be done and we must prepare to face seemingly insurmountable odds - however, we must know that despite this, we will prevail because we are right.
Happy Thanksgiving and please "Kerry on"!!!!
CANADA BUSY SENDING BACK BUSH-DODGERS
by Joe Blundo The Columbus Dispatch 11/16/04
The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has
intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop
the illegal immigration.
The re-election of President Bush is prompting the exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear
they'll soon be required to hunt, pray and agree with Bill O'Reilly.
Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors,
animal-rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields at night.
"I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled
in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota.
The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry.
"He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I
said I didn't have any, he left. Didn't even get a chance to show him my screenplay, eh?"
In an effort to stop the illegal aliens, Greenfield erected higher fences, but the liberals
scaled them. So he tried installing speakers that blare Rush Limbaugh across the fields.
"Not real effective," he said. "The liberals still got through, and Rush
annoyed the cows so much they wouldn't give milk."
Officials are particularly concerned about smugglers who meet liberals near the Canadian
border, pack them into Volvo station wagons, drive them cross the border and leave them
to fend for themselves.
"A lot of these people are not prepared for rugged conditions," an Ontario
border patrolman said. "I found one carload without a drop of drinking
water. They did have a nice little Napa Valley cabernet, though."
When liberals are caught, they're sent back across the border, often wailing loudly
that they fear retribution from conservatives. Rumors have been circulating about the Bush
administration establishing re-education camps in which liberals will be forced to drink
domestic beer and watch NASCAR.
In the days since the election, liberals have turned to sometimes-ingenious ways of crossing the border.
Some have taken to posing as senior citizens on bus trips to buy cheap Canadian prescription drugs.
After catching a half-dozen young vegans disguised in powdered wigs,Canadian immigration authorities began stopping buses and quizzing the supposed senior-citizen passengers.
"If they can't identify the accordion player on The Lawrence Welk Show, we get suspicious
about their age," an official said.
Canadian citizens have complained that the illegal immigrants are creating an organic-broccoli shortage and renting all the good Susan Sarandon movies.
"I feel sorry for American liberals, but the Canadian economy just can't support them,"
an Ottawa resident said. "How many art-history majors does one country need?"
In an effort to ease tensions between the United States and Canada, Vice President Dick Cheney met with the Canadian ambassador and pledged that the administration would take steps to reassure liberals, a source close to Cheney said.
"We're going to have some Peter, Paul & Mary concerts. And we might put some endangered
species on postage stamps. The president is determined to reach out."
Oops, the formatting didn't work well on that. I adjusted it and put it on the Unofficial Kerry Blog at http://kerryblog.blogspot.com/
I bet the conservatives particuarly like this, but it is funny, and is preferable to the more nasty stuff we are hearing. As liberals we can enjoy a good laugh, not being filled with the hatred which has taken over the right between its homophobia and xenophobia.
