Do You Want Congress To Kill Big Bird and Elmo?
Congress has moved from aiming at Big Bird and Elmo, to having them squarely in their sites and ready to pull the trigger today at the Appropriations Committee Meeting.
In a breathless rush to get this all over before parents all across America have a chance to discover what they are doing, Congress has raced this item forward on the agenda, going from subcommittee hearing to full committee vote in barely a week.
Do you think that Congress should kill the funding for children's educational television programs, such as Sesame Street? Do you think they should kill the funding for public radio broadcasts?
If yes, then do nothing.
But if you think this is wrong, wrong, wrong--keep reading.
If you think it's time that Congress stopped interjecting politics into everything from Main Street to Sesame Street, then you are going to want to take action right now.
Start calling and faxing the members of the House Appropriations Committee.
TELL THEM TO RESTORE FULL FUNDING TO PBS
If you see your Congressmember on that list, start there and keep going--if not, start at the top and do as many as you can. Just click here to get to the phone and fax list in the forum. As always please be polite.
But before you start your calling, you may want to stop and take a minute and let others know what is happening right now to the people in their neighborhood, people like Elmo and Bert and Ernie.

Why is no one confronting Bush/Frist/Dobson regarding their porn star Mary Carey's embrace of the Republican party, financial contributions at a Republican gala and candidacy for Lt. governor of California?
Is pornography a new Republican family value and why is no one talking about it?
What would Mehlman et al be saying if Mary Carey showed up at a Democratic fund raiser? Mehlman is in Va today promoting Kilgore and their Republican slate, why is no one asking him in Va about Carey and Republican family values? I asked this question on Friday and no one has picked up on this story.

Patti: why when the Repubs give us an opening do our party leaders not jump on these stories immediately. Howard Dean should be going on southern talk shows starting in Richmond, Norfolk, Jacksonville and Macon exploiting this story and attacking Kilgore and other Republicans running on family values. Patti do you have any ideas how we can communicate this to Dean's office. I have been unsuccesful in being able to reach Dean or anyone in his office. I will be contacting Kaine's office.

Hoyer Introduces Bipartisan Bill to Repeal 22nd Amendment
Resolution Would Repeal Two-Term Limit for President, Restore Power to the People
WASHINGTON, DC – House Democratic Whip Steny H. Hoyer (MD) introduced bipartisan legislation today to repeal the 22nd amendment, which states that “No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice.” Representatives Berman (D-CA), Pallone (D-NJ), Sabo (D-MN) and Sensenbrenner (R-WI) joined Hoyer in sponsoring the resolution.
Representative Hoyer released the following statement regarding the resolution:
“I introduced today a joint resolution to repeal outright the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. The 22nd Amendment requires that no person who has served two terms, or who has served more than two years of another President’s term and their own elected term, be permitted to serve another term of office.
“The time has come to repeal the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, and not because of partisan politics. While I am not a supporter of the current President, I feel there are good public policy reasons for a repeal of this amendment. Under the Constitution as altered by the 22nd Amendment, this must be President George W. Bush’s last term even if the American people should want him to continue in office. This is an undemocratic result.

I just realized a way to get to congress.
Tell them once bush is impeached we will push to allow our SOLDIERS to sue individual senators and congress people for any illegal war actions. INCLUDING incompetance that leads directly to unesscisary casualties.

Not only is Mary Carey a porn star, but she also lacks conviction. She ran as a Dem in the recall election, and now she's hanging out with the Republicans and will run later as an independent.
I am ashamed to be from her state. Seriously.
I called my Rep.- Kay Granger- and told her to support PBS, because, after all... she got all that money for the spanish language tapes in our cowgirl museum here... surely she can support funding for PBS.

I have sent faxes to the committee, and I just wanted to report in. Will check in laterish today, they say we will have power by early evening.
Also, handed out the letter Casey prepared and the phone and fax list to the moms over at school this morning. NOT one mom had a clue.
I just wrote the DNC and asked them to pull apart the president's prescription drug benefit for seniors as McClelland keeps touting this as the same thing congress gets! If we got the same thing no one would be screaming..this is another outrage!

Can I just say that this bill was introduced in FEBRUARY. And that it gets introduced EVERY year.
This is nothing, it's going nowhere, as evidenced by the fact that it have a total of four cosponsors.
It's weird that it's making the rounds in the blogosphere.
Course, there is the fantasy crowd that has Bush v. Bill Clinton. Course, no way it would pass and get ratified in time for 2008, but still, I love the idea of Clinton wiping the floor with Chimpy McFlightsuit.
I just finished my calling of Moms and got a hold of the rep. to the PTA, she was OUTRAGED and will be phoning around for the next couple of hours.
Next step, let's e-mail the media.

Did anyone see porn star Mary Carey on Keith Olbermann last nite? OMG. It was hilarious. You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried. She talked about how drunk Repubs got at the President's dinner the other night, and even how she was propositioned for group sex by congressmen and businessmen in attendance. And get this, one of the event's attendees owned a chain of strip clubs and was cutting a deal with her to make appearances at them. She said the event turned out to be a great networking opportunity for her and her boyfriend. Oh yeah, she now says Repubs are fun and she's definitely one now. She wanted to meet the president, but apparently they had serious security detail on her and she admitted that it seemed some of the higher profile GOPers steered clear of her while she was there too but some congressmen did do some propositioning and even offered her money but she didn't want to mention names. What a bunch of hypocrites. Here's more:

Lawmakers want target date for troops to leave Iraq
CAPITOL HILL (AP) -- A bi-partisan group of House members today will propose that President Bush set a timetable for the withdrawal of U-S forces from Iraq.
Among those calling for a date certain for U-S forces to get out is Republican Congressman Walter Jones of North Carolina.
Jones, who voted for the war, says the U.S. has done as much as it can in Iraq.
President Bush has said any timetable for a U.S. pullout would only encourage insurgents to wait for foreign troops to leave.
Jones said he thinks Iraqis can defend their own country.
