Pandagon Blogathon

In a continuation of sorts of the discussion started below about Political Theater as a means of bringing attention to an issue, Pandagon, a blog I have long admired, gets it.

Pandagon is doing a blogathon, a Pandathon, for Amnesty International. For the next 20 or so hours, they will be posting every half hour, while raising consciousness and cash for AI. And God bless them for it.

Go over and share the love, won't you? Then come on back, we have Polly Sigh coming up this afternoon.

Off topic, but if it is illegal for breathalizer companies to withhold source codes, why is it legal for diebold to withhold their codes?

I hope the Toledo Blade picks this up

"Cha Ching" From ¢¢¢ to $$$: How the Bush Crime Syndicate Funneled Foreign Cash Into the U.S. Political System
Florida Investigator Who Got Too Close to Florida "Coin Gate" Silenced by Jeb Bush's Gangsters

Now comes word that "Coin Gate" in Ohio is tied to the same criminal elements in the GOP that were responsible for turnpike toll money laundering in Florida. Durden's counterpart in Ohio, Tommy Noe, a Bush "Pioneer" contributor who Gov. Taft appointed to the Ohio Turnpike Commission, is in the center of a major scandal involving missing state funds invested in rare coins and baseball cards. Shortly after the Toledo Blade began reporting on the Ohio coin scandal, Noe resigned from the turnpike commission.

Hey guys! I've been with out a computer since Wednesday and couldn't handle it! My computer's back now, though, and I have been catching up on everything I missed. I did actually see Sensenbrenner on tv, and would just like to point out how it always seems to be Republican chairmen from Wisconsin causing trouble... (McCarthy). lol

I really liked the last thread, and am sorry to have missed it, but I loved the feathers, etc. idea and political theatre in general. Visuals are very effective. I remember during the campaign last year making "Continental Army Veterans for Truth" from that famous painting of Washington crossing the Delaware. The ridiculous swift boat vets' lies looked as ludicrous as they were when they were applied to Washington and the Delaware crossing.

Anyway, I apologize if you’ve already seen this, but I thought it was really good. Interview with RFK jr. about the environment, media, etc:

Endless Negligence of Press' Top Threat to Democracy

Kennedy: The public has to know what’’s actually happening. If people knew what was going on they’d be on our side. The problem is their information is cooked by industry, by the worst polluters, by the think tanks on Capitol Hill who are dictating what happens in the news.
The press is letting this president get away with policies without ground truth in them, and by that I mean the easily discernable lies of this White House on so many issues——from Medicare to the environment, the Iraq war to the budget. If we had an active, independent press that was willing to speak truth to power, the voters in this country would not be behaving irrationally. A democracy relies on an aggressive, independent press, and we no longer have that.

Kennedy: Again, I see very little philosophical difference between red-state residents and blue-state residents. The distinction is really a huge information deficit among the people who supported President Bush.

Oncall,
I forwarded the link to the waynemadsenreport to Steve Eder, one of the Blade reporters. This story keeps getting more and more complicated. Reminds me of the poem we had to learn in school , "Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive!"

Polly Sigh....

Can I join you in your world domination tour? Saving democracy is hard work! I can't decide if I should grab a martin too or if 10 pounds of chocolate will work just as well!

Let me grab my energizer and then I'll return to tell you all about the Rainbow Push Coalition's terrific opening conference today.

What do you think?

Enjoyed the RFK Jr comment about the information deficit among those who voted for Bush, implying that with correct information there might not be so much difference between "red" and "blue."

I just returned from a wedding shower. There aren't too many ways to bring up politics, but I managed. Someone asked where I lived and I described my intersection, then said "the red and green house with the Impeach Bush sticker in the window that's been up for 5 years" - blank stare.

Then we played "Wedding Pictionary" and some game where we had to "guess whose head is on the wedding dress." When it came to Barbara Bush, the organizer pointedly said, "DiAnne?" - and I guessed "Barbara Bush? Boooo!!" - resulting in a few snicker snickers and blank stares.

There was actually another person who said something about the other side of our state "having more breeders" - which kind of made me laugh. I don't think many people had any idea what she was talking about. (She is a city girl)

Hi DCP'ers

I've been MIA of late, out of town for a few days and then preparing my daughter for the prom tonight.

Glad to see this got posted over here. I've been posting about RFK, Jr and his recent article in Vanity Fair frequently at LUTD.

There are a few other links to recent stuff from RFK, JR in my recent post on this SierraSummit interview...

Robert Kennedy, Jr.: 'Endless Negligence of Press' Top Threat to Democracy
11 June 2005

In the past few weeks I have referenced Robert Kennedy Jr.’s recent article in the May issue of Vanity Fair, The Disinformation Society, numerous times. Kennedy’s article explicitly laid out the Republican Noise Machine and it’s effects on the election. It appears he’s even drawn some attention recently from the Republican Noise Machine itself, in an article in the Weekly Standard written by PNAC deputy director Daniel McKivergan. The article was a typical (and ridiculous) right-wing attack piece on John Kerry, but it should be noted that McKivergan pointed out and attempted to debunk Kerry’s recent reference to points made by Kennedy in The Disinformation Society.
