Perception Versus Reality
Dear Media,
Pleae take note of the following...
This is NOT looting:

(Photo: Yahoo News)
As fiscal hawks surrendered, would-be government contractors were meeting in the Hart Senate Office Building to figure out how to get a share of the money. A "Katrina Reconstruction Summit," hosted by Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) and sponsored by Halliburton, among others, brought some 200 lobbyists, corporate representatives and government staffers to a room overlooking the Capitol for a five-hour conference that included time for a "networking break" and advice on "opportunities for private sector involvement."
Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) sent his budget director, Bill Hoagland, who cautioned that federal Katrina spending might not exceed $100 billion. But John Clerici, from a law firm that helped sponsor the event, told the group that spending would "probably be larger" than $200 billion. "It's going to be spent in a fast and furious way," Clerici said.

Any questions?

Bennett: Abort Black Babies to Reduce Crime
Bill Bennett -- Reagan's former Secretary of Education -- declared on his satellite radio show today that "you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down."
Bennett was discussing the decline in the crime rate -- apparently inspired by "the claim that legalized abortion has reduced crime rates, which was posited in the book Freakonomics (William Morrow, May 2005) by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner." (Media Matters)
Addressing a caller's suggestion that the "lost revenue from the people who have been aborted in the last 30 years" would be enough to preserve Social Security's solvency, radio host and former Reagan administration Secretary of Education Bill Bennett dismissed such "far-reaching, extensive extrapolations."
Bennett instead declared that if "you wanted to reduce crime ... if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down." Bennett conceded that aborting all African-American babies "would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do," then added again, "but the crime rate would go down."
Media Matters reports that "Bill Bennett's Morning in America airs on approximately 115 radio stations with an estimated weekly audience of 1.25 million listeners." (Thanks to Keith Olbermann for first alerting me to this story, and to Media Matters for its usual, impeccable work in fact-checking the news.)
Bennett's show is run through Salem Radio Network (SRN): "SRN is a full-service satellite radio network based in Irving, Texas. We serve Christian-formatted and general market news/talk stations through affiliate partnerships." SRN's phone number is 972-831-1920. Ask for Charles Mefferd, Operations Manager. The new/existing sales numbers are 972-402-8800 and Fax:972-402-8200. And, use the network's online contact form to send them a message.
So this is the programming of Christians? I wonder what Jesus would listen to in today's radio markets.

Developing Story:
Mayor of New Orleans Buys Home in Dallas Area:
Holds 'Secret' Meetings With Business Owners
Last week Mayor Nagin of New Orleans was missing in action...he could not be found anywhere, but when he did turn up, it turns out that he has his own agenda for New Olreans and the River Region.
In his discreet trip to Texas, Nagin purchased a large home in the Dallas area and proceeded to hold meetings with business leaders from New Orleans of his own choosing. Yesterday in the MSM it was noted that Nagin said it was time to put together a Planning Commission and he would do so in the weeks ahead.
The Battle of New Orleans II begins in earnest.
Sparrow asked: Must the trial be in 90 days?
No Texas did away with our speedy trial laws years ago and the timing of the trial will be scheduled by the District's Ct's Ct Co-ordinator, the Judge in Travis Cty, and the court's docket and managing district judge. DeLay probably won't be tried until March or April 2006. Discovery motions according to Dick Degeurin will be filed in the next three weeks and heard around Thanksgiving.
Dick Deguerin is the finest criminal mind in the state of Texas and is feared in our criminal courts for his brilliance. If Ronnie Earl pulls this off it will take a stroke of legal genius. Hopefully he can turn one of the TRIMPAC defendants against Delay but I am not counting on a conviction.
DeLay's announced political strategy for next November. He claims that he is running against those wild eyed liberal interests in Austin, i.e. pitting Houston voters against those flaming liberal Bush twins in Austin.
Just got a phone call from Karen & Vic at Women's Leadership Forum:
Susie Turnbull announced as she convened the panel for the day, that bloggers were really affecting the political landscape and that there were even bloggers at the conference, 'the Democracy Cell Project is live-blogging'.
They are the only bloggers there. More to come... as soon as they find a wi-fi link.
anyway to do a postnatal abortion on neocons
- is it possible::
(listening to a Rwandan singer who escaped massacre; 17th arrondissement - Andree just brought me an aperitif and is cooking - we met protesters today - they were second tier comedians protesting the fact that the govt wont guarantee them an income - we suggest that they have had it easy - Andree also took me to the rive gauche to see where revolutionqries plotted; including one Benjamin Franklin)
ready to come home and resist

I thought Tom DeLay had the finest criminal mind in Texas.
