Aliens Take Cheney Aboard Spacecraft, but Refuse to Probe Him
Our weekly humor and satire columnist, the intrepid Polly Sigh, brings us her column from far off places....
I received a call from a very reliable ‘official Washington’ source regarding an incident involving the Vice President and some of our inter-galactic neighbors…it seems that word is leaking out of the administration once again. Leaks are not pretty.
This highly placed source has revealed that aliens (not the "guest worker" kind) have taken the Vice President aboard their spacecraft, but refuse to a probe.
I felt it was important enough to share it with you.
Apparently, the ‘refusal to probe’ caused quite a stir in planetary diplomacy circles. It may be that the aliens fear getting shot in the face. I mean, these things get around. And it appears they’re not the only ones. Looks like the Senate has decided that Bush’s illegal wiretaps won’t be probed either:
This comes on the heels of Texas law enforcement authorities assuring us that the Vice President will not face any charges in relation to downing a few brewskies and shooting a guy in the face.
Additionally, we now know that the U.S. is engaged in torturing prisoners, which will draw a large communal yawn from members of Congress. And lastly, we have Donald Rumsfeld saying that while the terrorists are undoubtedly ‘on the run,’ they apparently found time to create a much more effective PR machine than the Pentagon has… and I’m guessing they didn’t spend billions on it.
I can only conclude that what we have here is a trend.
What does it mean, this ‘refusal to probe’ the President and Vice President? Well, there are a few possible explanations.
1) Lack of personal hygiene. This is self-explanatory, and I plan to dine later, so I will forego the details here.
2) The Aliens have liquified the spinal cords of Congressional members, rendering them incapable of fulfilling their oversight duties of the Executive branch.
3) The Aliens are actually Haliburton share-holders and have a “Gentlemen’s Agreement” regarding the highly intimate and revealing probe.
4) Everybody in the U.S. government and U.S. media have just turned into a bunch of pansies.
Please vote for your favorite explanation. The results of our poll will be revealed at the First Annual Organ Meat and Cashew Hotdish Festival in Andersonia next week.
Keep Your Eyes on the Skies.
Your friend,
Polly

What really happened on the Armstrong Ranch? Here are some possible explanations:
http://jonswift.blogspot.com/2006/02/what-really-happened-on-armstrong.html
I vote for the pansies.
And if it's a Diebold machine, maybe that will count two or three times.
if the aliens are republicans or neocons i'd have to go with haliburton, then again i'm sure that aliens possess the technology to render politicians spineless, so let's go with a combo of 2 and 3
I'll go with the combo of 2, 3, & 4. #1 sounds... well, obscene; and who wants to probe that part of either one of them and get that dirty anyway? Well, aside from the spineless legislators whose lips are already surgically attached to The Cretin's and Vice Cretin's behinds?

Interesting point Ralpheh....it boils down the difference between the illusion and the reality.
The GOP has become very adept at presenting the Illusion, and running roughshod over weak protests. I will never forget Lieberman letting Cheney just walk over him at the VP debates in 2000... Illusion won over reality, this Template has served the GOP very well since.
..no child left behind....the saving of social security...the patriot act...the terrorist surviellance act...the iraqi war is over....
Framing their message resulted in brilliant ad campaigns selling something that does not exist.

What is so scary (to me anyway), is how compliant and complacent people get when they think they are in a "crisis" - like the terrorist attacks. For example, I hear "conservative" talk radio hosts say, "Let Bush tap my phone, let him monitor my internet usage, let him open my mail, let him search my house, BECAUSE, I HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE..... These are the same people who, several years back, were afraid their guns would be taken away by government storm troopers. This easily explains why fascist dictatorships take hold so easily - even in countries that have experience with democracy.
What has happened to the 200-year-old, traditional, healthy, American distrust of government and authority???? IT'S GONE - Let King George do anything, he wants.. in order to protect us etc...
Heather Wokusch | WWIII or Bust: Implications of a US Attack on Iran
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/021906D.shtml
Witnessing the Bush administration's drive for an attack on Iran is like being a passenger in a car with a raving drunk at the wheel, according to Heather Wokusch.
Excerpt:
Now consider the fact that former CIA Officer Philip Giraldi has said the Pentagon's plans to attack Iran were drawn up "to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States." Writing in The American Conservative in August 2005, Giraldi added, "As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States."
Chew on that one a minute. The Pentagon's plan should be used in response to a terrorist attack on the US, yet is not contingent upon Iran actually having been responsible. How outlandish is this scenario: another 9/11 hits the US, the administration says it has secret information implicating Iran, the US population demands retribution and bombs start dropping on Tehran.
{{{How's that for deja vu? And check out the year it was planned: August, 2005. This article also mentions Plame and Edmonds and the Iranian Oil Bourse set to open next month. Etc. A 'must read.'}}}

The Rolling Stones' free concert on Copacabana Beach attracted more than a million exhilarated spectators, and on Sunday hundreds of fans were already in line for a U2 concert in Sao Paulo.
U2, performing in Brazil for the first time since 1998, will play at Sao Paulo's Morumbi stadium on Monday and Tuesday. Band leader and activist Bono met privately with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia and lauded the president's fight against poverty.
"It is a dream to be here because Lula (Silva) is fighting against poverty not only here but also in Africa. I feel very enthusiastic about it," Bono told cheering fans at Brasilia's airport.

Republicans are making a larger issue of this that Democrats...someday the DNC will get a pulse on the Nation.

Looks like R's and D's from the affected states are against the deal (w/United Arab Emirates).
Looks like Condi Rice is the one who favors it.
It's probably part of some "deal" - economic or some other form of bribe. & only 5% of cargo containers coming into US are inspected. Senator Patti Murray on the west coast hss been talking about this for several years.

Nonny,
That's some scary stuff. I feel so helpless lately. I finally watched Farhenheit 911, saw a program on Free Speech TV today that detailed the Wolfowitz plan from the Bush 1 era that has come to pass, and as I watch the Iran situation unfold, in a repeat of the build up to Iraq.....
I feel like we're tied to the tracks and a freight train is coming. Again. And Dudley DoRight, or anyone else for that matter, seems deaf to our cries.
Actually, Polly, I learned today that we -- that is, those who don't fit in lock, stock, and barrel (so to speak...) -- all live in a "parallel universe" from the WH et al according to Mary Matalin .

Yeah, couple that info with the links about selling six US ports to the UAE (which would virtually guarantee another criminal attack of a terroristic nature), and it's potentially really, really scary. The articles about the selling of the six US ports have quoted Dumb$h*t saying 'it's okay, UAE is friendly to the US'... is another way of him saying "Trust me." Yeah, right..... Trust The Cretin??? Not as far as I could see him!!! And if our Clueless Congress trusts him and approves of all that BS, they can be un-re-elected this fall or shortly thereafter, too.
I firmly believe that that monster and his puppet master sitting in *our* White House WANT another 9/11 type of attack to happen so they can "justify" attacking Iran, keep the war in Iraq going, and get more countries involved (and so The Cretin can try to talk more young people into enlisting - something most didn't do after 9/11 - so he can't be blamed for re-instating the draft). Local in-state news had a very brief news blurb about an Osama bin Laden tape, but it's apparently part of a tape that was shown before??? Made no sense to me, the story was just a fifteen second mention, if that, and they moved on to another story. But I "smell' another OBL 'terraist' scare tactic coming from that sorry excuse of an administration, likley no later than Tuesday (given that tomorrow is a holiday), but he may start his war propaganda ratcheting up by as early as tomorrow morning. Evil doesn't take any holidays....
if Dirt Were Dollars
by Don Henley
Walkin' like a millionaire
Smilin' like a king
He leaned his shopping cart against the wall
He said, "I been a lot of places
And I seen a lot of things
But, sonny, I seen one thing that beats 'em all
I was flyin' back from Lubbock
I saw Jesus on the plane
...or maybe it was Elvis
You know, they kinda look the same
Hey, look out, Junior, you're steppin' on my bed"
I said, "I don't see nothin"
He just glared at me and said,
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
I wouldn't worry anymore
Lookin' like a beauty queen
Loyal as a wife
She raised her little voice and testified,
"I am a good girl
I've been one all my life"
But her virtue was as swollen as her pride
She should've had the Oscar
She must have been miscast
Her fifteen minutes went by so fast
I said, "Now, baby, have you got no shame?"
She just looked at me, uncomprehendingly
Like cows at a passing train
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
I wouldn't worry anymore
We got the bully pulpit
And the poisoned pen
We got a press no better
Than the public men
This brave new world
Gone bad again
God's finest little creatures
Looking brave and strong
Whistling past the graveyard
Nothing can go wrong
Quoting from the scriptures
With patriotic tears
We got the same old men
With the same old fears
Standing at attention
Wrapped in stars and stripes
They hear the phantom drummers
And the nonexistent pipes
These days the buck stops nowhere
No one takes the blame
But evil is still evil
In anybody's name
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
If dirt were dollars
We'd all be in the black
Well I am fantasizing about Oaxaca.
(I know it's not new, but I just felt like posting it.)

How come you're so wrong

Life is good at Haliburton

How come you're so wrong

If you turn out right
I'll eat my hat tonight
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah....

Bin Laden Vows Never to Be Captured Alive
{{{ Yeah, what-ever! OBL comes along and gives GWB his talking points about 'terraists' for his warmongering speeches just in time for President's Day... and so The Cretin has added reasons to somehow link Iran with terrorism, too, and take the warmongering rhetoric up a few notches. March and the opening of the Iranian Oil Bourse is right around the corner, so The Cretin needs to talk really, really fast and scare the bejeebers out of the sheeple who have adopted his paranoia so they will support yet another needless war.... Gosh, ya know I sometimes have to wonder: Do OBL and GWB talk to each other through their mutual financial and family connections and orchestrate these tapes to conveniently appear just when GWB needs to ratchet up the scare tactics a notch or two...??? White House Working to Avoid Wiretap Probe
But Some Republicans Say Bush Must Be More Open About Eavesdropping Program
By Charles Babington
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, February 20, 2006; A08
At two key moments in recent days, White House officials contacted congressional leaders just ahead of intelligence committee meetings that could have stirred demands for a deeper review of the administration's warrantless-surveillance program, according to House and Senate sources.
In both cases, the administration was spared the outcome it most feared, and it won praise in some circles for showing more openness to congressional oversight.
But the actions have angered some lawmakers who think the administration's purported concessions mean little. Some Republicans said that the White House came closer to suffering a big setback than is widely known, and that President Bush must be more forthcoming about the eavesdropping program to retain Congress's good will.

Happy Presidents Day... a day to celebrate what a President of the United States USED to be.
It use to be that on President's day we'd all get a day off.
Is there a way to convince Bush and Cheney and all of the majority party who are busy working daily to "think of new ways to harm America" to take a day off?

My sister sent me this RE: an anti-war forum that Howard Zinn attended (along with 1000+ others) at UT in Austin. It's good to see that they're talking about this in Texas (even if it's Austin, which is notably progressive). It's a start...
Anti-war forum discusses history
U.S. citizens must understand the United States' history of empiricism in order to speak out against and stop the war in Iraq, said historian, author and political activist Howard Zinn Friday.
--snip--
The only difference is developments in biological warfare and nuclear technology have provided the United States with the capacity to do more harm, he said. This will go unchecked unless people realize they have the power to stop the U.S. government from continuing its imperialistic activity abroad, Zinn said.

One Thousand and Sixty-Five Days To Go...
Time has an article about how difficult it's going to be for the regime to get back on track in the time they have left...
Here are some snippets:
"Some people in the White House are worried that this will hasten the start of the formal lame-duck period, which they were hoping to put off until after the midterm elections," said a Republican official. "This showed a weakened President and a Vice President in a bubble within a bubble."
--snip--
And these days Bush's challenge, and Cheney's, is not that their enemies hate them, since it has been forever thus; it is that they are increasingly at odds with their friends.
--snip--
What the hunting furor did, beyond occupying the airwaves for a week and stalling what momentum the President may have had, was expose in the most public way yet the extent to which Cheney runs an independent operation and raise the question of how much the White House can control him--or wants to. Cheney makes his own rules; he decides what intelligence matters, what secrets are worth keeping and what force is worth using, and he defends his positions with a breathtaking indifference to consequences and to complaint from those who disagree. He went off to spend a relaxing--and unannounced--weekend hunting with friends who also happened to be donors and lobbyists at a time when both species find themselves under fire. And it turned into a nightmare for everyone involved.

Mary Matalin: First Cheney Statement for Press Did Not Admit He Was Shooter
By E&P Staff
Published: February 19, 2006
Even as the Sunday morning televison talk shows featured blistering attacks on the press for going overboard in its critical coverage of the Cheney shooting incident last week, further revelations guaranteed that the story would have legs.
Newsweek and Time magazines both put the vice president on their covers this week with lengthy, if not especially fresh, accounts of the shooting of Harry Whittington inside. Most major newspapers rehashed the episode in their Sunday papers. Cheney aide Mary Matalin accused NBC reporter David Gregory of going on a "jihad" gainst the vice president.
Buried in the Time cover story, however, was one brain-teaser that could fuel more speculation, as it contradicts earlier explanations that Cheney wanted to get the full story out, he was just a bit tardy about it. The passage reads:
"At about 8 a.m. Sunday, a Cheney aide called strategist Mary Matalin, who regularly advises the Vice President. The aide read her a statement about the accident that Cheney had considered releasing before he decided to encourage Armstrong to go to the (Corpus Christi) Caller-Times.
"But the statement 'didn't say much of anything,' Matalin says—not even that Cheney was the shooter. Matalin then spoke with a second aide and with Cheney's family and heard different versions of what had happened in the shooting. She decided no statement should be released amid the confusion. Matalin spoke with Cheney, and, she says, they agreed that 'a fuller accounting, with an eyewitness,' would be preferable."

In the statement where Bin Laden vows never to be taken alive, he also distances himself from Saddam, says Bush admin is resembling Saddam. That kind of speaks against the AQ-Iraq "link" but many lack the analytical nature to notice.
The Chavez v Rice article is perversely entertaining. I imagine them in a ring, facing off with boxing gloves, or wearing those diaper-looking things like Sumo wrestlers. Rice is also the big advocate of UAR port control.
Here is something on that:
DON'T LET THEM TURN OUR PORT SECURITY OVER TO A TERRORIST INFILTRATED ARAB GOVERNMENT
Just when you thought homeland security couldn't get more inept and incompetent, we find out the Bush administration casually and secretly planned on approving sale of control of six of our major ports to an company controlled by The United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Isn't this the same United Arab Emirates that was one of the few to recognize the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. Isn't this the same United Arab Emirates that has been the transfer point for rogue nuclear weapons components, and who have harbored al Qaeda terrorists?
ACTION PAGE: http://www.nocrony.com/port_security.php
Are they completely out of their minds? Or are we for allowing the Bush administration to remain in power even one single additional day? There is already a bi-partisan coalition forming to demand that there be an immediate investigation of why such a deal was even considered, let alone waved through without a concern in the world. There are already many who believe that 9/11 attacks could not have succeeded without a deliberate stand down by our own government. Is this yet another example of that?

From Kos...
We're at the point now that only seven states give Bush 50 percent or more -- Utah (which is for the first time under 60 percent), Idaho, Alabama, Wyoming, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Montana. That's down from 11 states in January.
--snip--
Bush's numbers in Rhode Island in January were abysmal enough -- 29/68 (-39). But Rhode Islanders mulled it over, kicked around a few ideas, and decided they could do even better. And they did. Bush is -47 in RI this month, or 25-72.
