BREAKING: Tom DeLay Quitting Reelection Bid
CNN's Dana Bash confirms from two Congressional sources that former House Majority Leader and indicted felon Tom DeLay (R-Texas) will not seek re-election.
Nothing up on their web site yet.
...MSNBC's Chris Matthews confirms that he spoke to DeLay.
DeLay to make announcement tomorrow.
More from Time Magazine on how Tom DeLay plans to lie his way OUT of Congress. Lovely:
DeLay said he is likely to leave by the end of May, depending on the Congressional schedule and finishing his work on a couple of issues. He said he will change his legal residence to his condominium in Alexandria, Va., from his modest two-story home on a golf course here in the 22nd District of Texas. "I become ineligible to run for election if I'm not a resident of the state of Texas," he said, turning election law to his purposes for perhaps on last time. State Republican officials will then be able to name another Republican candidate to face Democrat Nick Lampson, a former House members who lost his seat in a redistricting engineered by DeLay.

Yes, indeedy... and MSNBC has confirmed on-air that Tom "I Never Met A Graft I Didn't Like" DeLay has put out the word via Chris Matthews tonight, and will officially announce it to the eager ears of the world in the morning, that he will not be running for re-election to Congress this year.
Yup, that's right DeLay will *not* be seeking re-election to the legislative seat that he's held (hostage? ahem) for so long.
From statements he made this evening, it seems that he's been trend-watching for several months now and has realized that even if he fought the best fight he's still got in him, he'd still get totally creamed in the November elections.
So, DeLay being the stalwart champion of personal principle that he is, he's chosen to cop a walk rather than to face the electoral music down in Texas this fall. Boy howdy, now ain't *that* just a honkin' big surprise?
Why, I am shocked, *shocked* I tell you, to find rats abandoning this corrupt administration's sinking ship of state in such a fashion!

That's one more down and about 20,000 to go.
DCPers, Remember the neighbors across the street, with the huge SUV and the DeLay sticker on it?
They be gone.
Moved out over the weekend.
Speaking of candidates

ooh, that's good, ABQ!
My husband says PBS has a show on right now about Kerry in Vietnam. Now it's talking about Bush (in those days). "No one thought of him (Bush) as a future candidate" says the narrator. I can see why. Nixon then appoints Bush Sr. to the UN. I will watch some of this if I can stand it. "John Kerry was still in the Navy but he was increasingly troubled by the war." It sounds too sad - maybe I'll just listen from here. I really have a hard time handling this particular stuff. & now - deja vu (sadly).
"Bush's lost year" - what PBS is covering now. Then they say, "This is the only photo of him that we could find" and he is blowing a big bubble with bubble gum. It is just too painful to consider the life trajectories of these two individuals, Bush & Kerry. It is just unfathomable that the "Peter Principal" was realized to the extreme that it was with young George.
Tom DeLay Says He Will Give Up His Seat

Representative Tom DeLay, whose iron hold on the House Republicans melted as a lobbying corruption scandal engulfed the Capitol, told TIME that he will not seek reelection and will leave Congress within months.

Kenny-Boy's not totally gone. The first paragraph or two says what he intends to do, so he's gonna be at least in the background (of course, it wouldn't surprise me to hear gossip that he's a regular on Faux Snooze Talking Heads Shows on Sundays in the future, either).

Honesty & Integrity...
Julius Caesar
Act 3. Scene 2. The Forum in Rome.
ANTHONY
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears.
I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.
The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interrèd with their bones.
So let it be with Caesar. The noble Brutus
Hath told you Caesar was ambitious.
If it were so, it was a grievous fault,
And grievously hath Caesar answered it.
Here, under leave of Brutus and the rest --
For Brutus is an honorable man,
So are they all, all honorable men --
Come I to speak in Caesar's funeral.
He was my friend, faithful and just to me.
But Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
He hath brought many captives home to Rome,
Whose ransoms did the general coffers fill.
Did this in Caesar seem ambitious?
When that the poor have cried, Caesar hath wept.
Ambition should be made of sterner stuff.
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And Brutus is an honorable man.
You all did see that on the Lupercal
I thrice presented him a kingly crown,
Which he did thrice refuse. Was this ambition?
Yet Brutus says he was ambitious,
And sure he is an honorable man.
I speak not to disprove what Brutus spoke,
But here I am to speak what I do know.
You all did love him once, not without cause.
What cause withholds you then to mourn for him?
O Judgment, thou art fled to brutish beasts,
And men have lost their reason!
Bear with me.
My heart is in the coffin there with Caesar,
And I must pause till it come back to me.
