Colbert Guts Beck
I have to confess that I rarely have the stomach to watch Limbaugh, Beck, Fox News, etc. For those of you who want to know what Rush is up to without having to sit through the show, Media Matters has started the Limbaugh Wire, an hour-by-hour critique of Rush's latest.
And then there is Glen Beck. Thanks to the comic genius of Stephen Colbert, I feel like I know everything I will ever want to know about Beck--Colbert leaves Beck's corpse on the floor. While I agree that the mainstream media often present a very distorted picture of the world, it is gratifying to know that there are popular shows on TV that can be funny and play smash-mouth politics at the same time.

REPUBLICAN VET SHAMES LIMBAUGH
If that doesn't work try this
http://silencedmajority.blogs.com/silenced_majority_portal/2009/04/republican-vet-caller-shames-limbaugh.html
Watching Rush wriggle is not pretty. Rush makes it clear what his definition of a Republican is. The caller says he's a Republican who voted for McCain, but that Rush has hurt the Republican Party by not opposing the use of torture. In closing the call, Rush concludes that "Because you're no Republican at all based on what the hell you've said here."
So if you agree with Rush, you can be a Republican. But if you disagree, you can't be a Republican. If the Republican Party holds to this definition, it's going to go the way of the Whigs in the 19th century--extinct.
Dick, I can't watch these individuals for even five minutes.
The problematic thing about these entertainers - because that's what they ultimately offer, a disgustingly low brow form of entertainment that strikes me as ultimately having much less redeeming social value than most hard core pornography - is that they can often be reasonably compelling advocates for their twisted views. They play effectively on various aspects of our shared sense of national identity - while simultaneously distorting or ignoring historical details that fundamentally undermine their case, and deserve to be brought to light.
For instance, about a year or so ago, Beck got a lot of press when quoting Benjamin Franklin in an attempt to undermine support for social welfare programs in big cities, like Newark. I don't remember the exact quote - but it was one that had almost no relevancy to economics in contemporary America, but nonetheless sounded persuasive.
Now, as virtually every honest historian will tell you, Franklin lived in an era when there was a surplus of work and a shortage of labor. This chronic shortage of labor led to the truly evil institutions of indentured servitude and slavery. In Franklin's era, if opportunity ever dried up in the town or village in which you lived, one was always free to ‘go west’ – and try again. In contrast, in our era, even during periods of moderate economic growth, there is typically a shortage of work and an excess of labor. In periods of recession, there is a severe shortage of work and extreme excess of labor.
So, how can anyone of good conscience and character, which is how these pretend patriots portray themselves, possibly represent the views of Ben Franklin on hard work and poverty as being relevant in our era, an era in which there are no more Indian lands to steal, not to mention a tragic imbalance between the supply of labor and the availability of work?
Matt, I can't stand to watch these shows either, which is why I so much appreciate what Media Matters and other groups are doing by giving us strategically useful clips. When your opponents are so vile that you can't stand to listen to them at all, you lose information that you unfortunately need to fight more effectively. It is my strong impression that progressives are doing a much beter job of knocking the wingnuts back on their heels by using the net to highlight their most damaging, unAmerican statements. It's the nature of the entertainment beast to push Rush et. al to reach for increasingly outre rhetoric and metaphors.

I love Glenn Beck!. I only wish more people in the broadcasting arena had the guts he has. And i wish he would join it training with all of my friends. If he want to look at all of the programs of study in Job Futures with GOOD Work, FAIR Work or with LIMITED Work then check Prospects in 2009. In which VCP-310 questions certification and SY0-101 questions training will be on the top and have valuable scope in the market.
